The Cabinet Of The Confederate States At Montgomery
(From Harpers Weekly, 01 June 1861.)

(L-R) Judah Philip Benjamin, Stephen Russell Mallory, Christopher Gustavus Memminger, Alexander Hamilton Stephens,
Leroy Pope Walker, Jefferson Davis, John Henninger Reagan, & Robert Augustus Toombs.

Of the faces which appear on this website's banner, most readily recognize the famous pre-war picture of Jefferson Davis (03 June 1808-06 December 1889) by the studio of Matthew B. Brady (1822-15 January 1896), but the other faces are less familiar. As this website is titled The Confederate War Department, the logo contains the images of all the Secretaries of War in the order in which they served. Since President Davis heavily influenced military decisions, he is in the center. As many are aware, Davis was also a Secretary of War for the administration of U.S. President Franklin Pierce (23 November 1804-08 October 1869) from 1853 to 1857. Thus, one could say that all are Secretaries of War. Below is a listing of the various departments and bureaus of the Confederacy's Executive Branch, with links to biographical sketches of many of the officers.
